I recently tried some of those crazy Pinterest uses for coconut oil… What an adventure.
First of all, no one in the world has enough time to try out ALL the uses. There are hundreds. Some seem reasonable, some seem insane. Here’s what I tried:
- Conditioner: Using coconut oil as conditioner seemed like a great idea. It’s moisturizing, it smells amazing and its pretty similar in texture to my usual conditioner. But oh was I wrong! First of all, I put it on all of my hair, not just my roots. Doing this with normal conditioner would also make my hair greasy, but I though if i conditioned first and shampooed last, it would wash away the extra oil…Nope! When I tried to do my hair, it looked like I hadn’t showered in weeks. My hair was super soft but looked greasy. This would possibly be better for using on only the ends of my hair, but I haven’t been brave enough to try it again.
- Deodorant: I promise it’s not as gross as it sounds. This use for coconut oil actually seems like a great alternative for people with sensitive underarms. It worked about as well as my usual deodorant. Unfortunately, it is messier to apply than normal deodorant.
- Shaving cream: This use gave me mixed feelings. It was not as smooth as using soap to shave. The razor did not glide easily over my skin. However, my legs were super soft after I got out of the shower. It would probably be better use in the shower after shaving.
- Lotion: I applied coconut oil on my face as a moisturizer. The key here is that a little goes a long way. At first, I put on way too much and my face was greasy. It was not absorbing like regular lotion or moisturizer would. When I put on a more sparse amount, it was much better.
Next I’m attempting Oil Pulling… Wish me luck!
